The Covid conundrum continues, though strict quarantine regulations are loosening. Of course, a spike in new cases is practically universal. But, hey, dollars over sense, right?
No, this isn't a political post. I leave that to my Twitter (@alistairmckenz1) account. If you want to know my leanings take a look. Or follow. Or comment. Or not. It's up to you.
I had a very good day yesterday. In the thaw or post lock-down my long postponed headshot session with Joanna DeGeneres finally happened. It was a joy to get out or the house and do something for my career. Out of the house. Driving all the way to North Hollywood. Did I mention, out of the house?
My wife asked why I needed new photos and is it worth the risk? I said, yes because they are currency in the business. Do good headshots guarantee a job? Not a chance. But, bad headshots lose jobs. Guaranteed.
Anyway, I was originally scheduled for 3:30pm on a Thursday in April. Then, Covid. First postponement to May 5 at 11:00am. Then, shelter in place. Second postponement to May 20 at 2:00pm. Third postponement? Ugh.
When I scheduled the original session I got my hair cut (such as it is) with just enough time for it to look natural for the shoot. By the time yesterday rolled around there were no hair cuttin' places open. Fortunately, a little slick down and the wild edges of my male pattern baldness wouldn't dare make trouble. Would they?
Since my new twice rescheduled appointment was at 2:00pm, I figured I had plenty of time to rumble through my morning routine and be there ready and willing. Then, Joanna's assistant Amelia emailed me on the 11th: "Can you do 1:30 instead of 2:00?". "Sure." Still plenty of routine time. Then, Amelia emails me on the 17th asking if I could come in at Noon. Okay. Sounds reasonable. Then, on the 20th, I get saw text from her at five minutes to eleven asking if I could come in at eleven. So, I jump in the car and off I went. I was simultaneously a half an hour early and late. Just like Covid!
The session was wonderful. I really liked the photos I saw and am excited to see the gallery. Can't recommend Joanna highly enough. Not only because her dog is a doll, but also that she's a real pro.
When I get 'em I'll post a few on the website. You know, I often go to bed asking myself what I did for my career today. I slept very well last night.
